Scheduled Competitions:
Age 13 and under (J)
Age 13 – 16 inclusive (T)
Women competitions (W)
Kyu competitions (K)
Dan competitions (D)
Open Team competitions

Cost of participation:
Cost for participation is $35. (Except Junior – i.e. under 16: $25).
This includes entry to all competitions, lunch and refreshments. Please register and pay to your club representatives.

General Competition Rules:
Please submit only one entry form per club/dojo by Club representatives (In this case, send your entry to Jessi Tilbrook, SKC Club secretary. secretary@sydneykendoclub.org)

Entries for the championship will close at 5 pm on 28th April 2012 (Saturday). No late entries will be accepted.

For the open team competitions,
Each club may submit up to 3 teams of 5 members per team. Team members can be kyu or dan or mixed. Each team must consist of at least 3 members.
Each person can only participate in one team.

Open to all members of AKR.

Refreshments and Meals:
Lunch, Tea, coffee and water will be provided.

Tenugui for the 15WKC Australian Kendo Team

The 37 AKC saw the release of a limited edition fund raising tenugui for the 15WKC Australian Kendo Team (refer image attached).

Thank you very much to all those supporters who have purchased one or more tenugui during the championship weekend already, but please note that they are of course on sale to everyone who did not attend the National championships as well.

They are on sale for $15 each, or “buy four and get one free” (that is, five tenugui for just $60!), and can be purchased from any of the Australian Team Members or myself.

All proceeds from the sale of these tenugui will go directly towards assisting with expenses for the Australian Kendo Team in Italy this year.

There is only a limited number of tenugui available, so make sure you get in quick.

The characters in Japanese are read KO KEN CHI AI, and although this not the motto for Australian Kendo Team, it is a well known kendo term, and is “referring to the desire to achieve mutual understanding and betterment of humanity through kendo”.

To try and describe further, it is a teaching that make you try to undertake kendo practice and competitions in a way that will make an opponent want to practice or compete with you again and again.

Sydney Kendo Club is proud to invite teams to enter the 3rd Annual SKC3’s Friendship
Cup, to be held on Saturday 24th February 2011. The aim of the Friendship Cup is to
promote harmony and goodwill in the spirit of competition.
There will be the opportunity for senior Kyu grades and all Dan grades to practise
shimpaning skills.

For children, there will be a balloon keiko competition for U/10, U/12, U/14 and U/16.
Location: CSG Sports Centre, Faculty of Health Sciences, Cumberland Campus C42, 75
East St, Lidcombe, NSW 2141 (entry via Gate 2). Paid parking available within University ($4 entry fee). There is limited off street parking available.

Cost: $35 for adults, $15 for children

Lunch: Sushi Platter (Vegetarian choice)

Team Structure:
3 players
- At least one Kyu grade (Kyu will always play first)
- Only one 3rd Dan or above (Can have more than one dan player)
- Team members do not need to be members of the same club

Competition Structure:
Round 1 will include Pools, ensuring all players will play at least two matches. Each match
will be limited to 3 minutes, except the final, which will be limited to 5 minutes.

How To Enter:
Please enter via your club secretary. For teams made up of players from different clubs, the
team captain should enter the full team via their club, including payment. Entry closes Saturday 18th Feb. No late entries will be accepted. You must be an AKR member to enter.

Timetable:
Shinai Weigh-in: 8:30am – 9:00am
Opening Ceremony: 9:00am – 9:15am
SKC 3’s: 9:30am – 12noon
Lunch Break: 12noon – 1pm
U/10 & U/12 Balloon Keiko: 1pm – 1:30pm
U/14 & U/16 Balloon Keiko: 1:30pm – 2pm
SKC 3’s: 2pm – 4:30pm
Presentation Ceremony: 4:30pm – 5:00pm
Free Jigeiko: 5:00pm – 5:30pm

Adults: Last training on 17th December followed by the Christmas party on same day. We will come back to training on 4th January 2012.

Kids: Last date 10th December (Kids Competition) and will return on 14th January 2012.

Volunteers Needed

We will have a new beginners class soon and we will need some people to put their hands up to teach. This position is open to 3rd dan and above.

This is a good opportunity to reflect on your own kendo and/or learn to teach beginners classes.
